Ciro Immobile hoping to achieve Serie A goalscoring record

Lazio striker Ciro Immobile is looking forward to the final phase of the season where he has the chance of becoming the highest goalscorer in a single Serie A campaign. Gonzalo Higuain currently holds the record with 36 goals in a single season and Immobile is not far off from the tally, having netted 27 times in the league.

He has another 12 games to eclipse the Argentine’s record and he is hoping of doing so when the season resumes after the coronavirus shutdown, he told: "I don't know. It depends. I'm training hard to achieve this goal. Everyone has their own. It would be nice. It's like the Easter egg. We'll see what the surprise will be when we get back on the field. I'll do my best."

Meanwhile, Lazio are currently only one point behind Juventus at the top of the standings and they have the opportunity of ending a two-decade long wait for the Scudetto. When asked about the prospect, Immobile said that the club are ambitious over the title and the dream remains alive at the present moment.

He told: “The ambitions remain. It is obvious that at this moment we have thought little about football. When the time to get back on the field is getting closer, we will have to be good at preparing ourselves mentally because there will be 12 very important matches to continue our dream.”

Immobile has found most of his success in the Serie A and he has already won some silverware with the capital outfit. Still, he has yet to prove himself abroad and reports claim that he could be offered the chance to join Everton in the Premier League this summer. The Toffees are prepared to offer Moise Kean to Lazio in a player-plus-cash deal. The 20-year-old has been a huge disappointment and has netted just once from 22 Premier League games.
