Liverpool legend urges Christian Eriksen to make the switch to Anfield

Liverpool legend Dean Saunders has said that Christian Eriksen should take up the opportunity of joining the Reds, should an opportunity come by during the transfer window. The Denmark international has less than 12 months remaining on his current contract with Tottenham Hotspur and this has spread speculation that he could be sold before the transfer deadline next month.

Speaking on TalkSPORT, Saunders acknowledged that Eriksen should pursue a bigger challenge entering into the prime of his career and a move to Anfield remains a possible option, he said:"[They could] spend it maybe... I think Eriksen could slot into Liverpool's team; somebody like Eriksen. That type of player who will make their midfield a bit more productive."

Eriksen had been heavily touted to make the switch to Real Madrid at the beginning of the summer transfer window but the interest seems to have faded with the Spanish giants landing the signature of Eden Hazard from Chelsea. Nonetheless, the Dane has continued to be associated with a probable departure from Spurs amid the contract standoff and it remains to be seen whether Jurgen Klopp’s side would be tempted to make an approach.

The Reds have progressed immensely under the guidance of Klopp over the past few years and the previous campaign saw them end a seven-year trophy drought by lifting the Champions League. As such, they don’t necessarily require to strengthen the attacking department ahead of next season and the next few weeks should give a clear idea over the transfer stance.

Elsewhere, Manchester United have been another side, who have been linked with the former Ajax graduate but they may not be prepared to match Spurs’ £100m price tag, considering they are focused on pursuing young players rather than going for experienced recruits. Eriksen is currently going through an individual training programme with Spurs after undergoing a minor surgery during the off-season.
