LUCAS CONVINCED ON GREAT KLOPP MOMENT
Lazio midfielder Lucas Leiva has revealed that he was convinced that a great moment was coming at Liverpool under manager JurgenKlopp when he left the Reds to move to the Italian Serie A four years ago.
Lucas Leiva talked about Liverpool in a chat with Extra Time on the club's official TV station (LFCTV) on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of Klopp as the Reds manager towards the end of last year. According to the Brazilian international, he could feel that a great moment was coming and that Liverpool would start winning big trophies.
Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva joined Liverpool in the summer of 2007 and he had spent over eight years at Anfield before the Reds appointed German tactician Klopp as their manager. He spent almost two years under Klopp before leaving to sign for Lazio in 2017. While he was at Liverpool under German manager Klopp, the club reached two major cup finals in addition to Champions League qualification. Lucas left Liverpool for Italy with the conviction that the Merseyside giants would start winning trophies.
Lucas Leivawas proven right as Liverpool won four major trophies between 2019 and 2020 including the Champions League. The Reds won the Champions League title in the summer of 2019 to end their barren run of seven years without a trophy. Liverpool beat North London giants Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 during the 2019 Champions League final thanks to the goals from Mohamed Salah and DivockOrigito win a sixth European title.
On Klopp as a manager, Lucas Leiva said he learned a lot from him in his two years under him. According to him, Klopp always treated him with so much respect and he always tried to reciprocate the gesture. It's not surprising that Lucas Leiva has maintained a close relationship with Klopp despite leaving for the Italian Serie A many years ago.
