LUCAS LEIVA: LIVERPOOL HAVE SQUAD FOR TWO TEAMS

Brazilian player Lucas Leiva says his club has enough players with decent quality to form two complete elite squads.

The player opines that the management has covered all the spots in the team this summer after landing several players during the summer break.

“I think it’s clear that we have very good players in every single position. And not just one good player, I would say we have two teams you could put out to get you results,” Leiva told Liverpool’s official website. The Reds signed seven players before the transfer window closed, adding Sadio Mane, Joel Matip, Loris Karius, Georginio Wijneldum, and others. The quality additions have started making impact in Coach Jurgen Klopp’s set-up.

“Of course the Premier League is very difficult, but I think the squad we have, with the new players who have made us stronger – hopefully it’s going to be a very good season for the club,” Leiva said optimistically despite not getting action in the squad so far.

Liverpool have not been consistent this term, starting with a banger against Arsenal. They defeated the Gunners 4-3 showing the quality of the attacks, but suffered a stunning loss to Burnley with the same attack. Leiva confessed that they could do better. “Of course it could be better. Especially the Spurs game – we had a chance to win the game. The Burnley game was a strange one because we had a lot of the ball,” he said.

Liverpool have four points after three games in the Premier League – a win, a loss and a draw. They are set to meet Leicester City next. The match would be the first at home this term, but the defending champions wouldn’t care who’s at home. Leiva admitted that expectations are high, but said the team hasn’t fared bad so far.
