Lucas Leiva not thinking about retirement any soon
Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva has indicated that he does not have plans to step down from the game any sooner but refused to confirm whether Lazio would remain the final team of his playing career. The 31-year-old is currently in his second season with the Capital outfit after joining from Liverpool and he is supposedly not looking much into the future.
Speaking ahead of the Europa League game against Apollon Limassol, he said: “I’m still not thinking about finishing my career. I’m very happy here, I’m content and Lazio have given me something extra as a player. Brazil is always in my mind, but I’m not thinking about the future too much. I’m only thinking about the present and Lazio. I’ve felt good here from the first day, at home, I have a good relationship with my teammates and the staff and everyone has made me feel welcome.”
Leiva stayed for exactly for a decade with Liverpool after joining them from Gremio but “ he made the decision to part ways after finding himself out of favour under Jurgen Klopp for a starting
role.“Thereafter he managed to win silverware with Lazio with his maiden game for Lazio against Juventus in the Italian Super Cup but the Capital “ outfit could not quite“ translate the form into their league where they once more failed to qualify for the Champions League.
Certainly, the Rome-based club were unfortunate with noticeable VAR decisions not being taken by the on-field referee and ultimately, they lost out on the fourth position on the head to head basis to Inter Milan after they lost against them during the final game of the previous campaign. With the current season, Lazio had the worst possible start after losing out to Napoli and Juventus in the opening two games but they have since recovered with 12 points from the last five matches to propel within a point off the top four.
