Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva has agreed a return to Gremio in the Brazilian Serie A on the back of his Lazio spell. It has been decided that Lucas Leiva will leave Italian Serie A side Lazio when his contract runs outthis month.

As reported by Brazilian media outlet GauchaZH, Lucas Leiva has agreed a one-year contract with Gremio that will see him stay at the club in 2023. The midfielder will return to Gremio after 15 years in European football. Lucas played for Premier League side Liverpool and Italian capital club Lazio while he was in European football. He spent a decade at Liverpool on the back of his transfer to the Reds from Gremio in the Brazilian top flight in 2007. The Brazil international has been at Lazio since he joined them from Merseyside giants Liverpool in 2017. He has a record of four goals and 12 assists in 198 Lazio games in all competitions.

Coutinho was tasked with creating a fantasy five-a-side team made up of Brazilians who have played in the Premier League, and while he could have picked from the likes of Fernandinho, Fabinho or even Gilberto Silva, Coutinho chose Lucas as his holding midfielder.

Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva was subbed off as Lazio were beaten at home by title chasers AC Milan in the Italian Serie A. The two teams met last weekend with Milan coming from a goal down to beat hosts Lazio 2-1 to boost their push for the Italian Serie A this season. The Brazilian midfielder professed his affection for the Reds the club celebrated him earlier this month on the occasion of his 35th birthday. Lucas Leiva spent the majority of his professional football career at Liverpool and the defensive midfielder has publicly declared that he’s a Liverpool fan years after leaving the club.

Lucas Leiva signed for Liverpool while Spanish tactician Rafael Benitez was the manager and he was at the club throughout the Brendan Rodgers managerial era as well as at the start of the current regime under JurgenKlopp. The Brazil international signed for Liverpool from Gremio in the Brazilian league in 2007 and he was at the club until 2017 when Lazio signed him.

The midfielder didn’t win any trophy as a Liverpool player, but he was part of the team that reached both the 2016 League Cup final and the 2016 Europa League final in the first season for Klopp at Liverpool. German tactician Klopp was appointed the Liverpool manager in the place of the sacked Brendan Rodgers during the third month of the 2015/16 season.
