SERIE A: LAZIO MAINTAIN WINNING RUN

Lazio have a lot of catching up to do on the Italian Serie A table if the capital club wants to secure a spot in the Champions League or the Europa League next season. The capital club has not been consistent in the league this season unlike the last campaign when they were in the conversation for the Scudetto. They pushed champions Juventus all the way in the title race up until the league was suspended in March 2020.

On the resumption of the league, Lazio could not reprise the form shown before the lockdown and they ended up in fourth position at the end of the season. Lazio have continued that post-lockdown form into this season and there are seven better teams as things stand on the table.

The Italian capital club has been able to recover well from their last league loss, a 3-2 away defeat at leaders AC Milan last month. Since that defeat, they have been able to produce a three-match unbeaten run including victories in the last two games to close the gap on the leading pack. Lazio made it two successive league wins last weekend with theimpressive 2-0 away win over Parma. Lucas Leiva was in the starting XI as he contributed to the result earned by second half goals from Ecuadorian international Felipe Caicedo and Luis Alberto.
Spanish midfielder Luis Alberto scored the opening goal of the Serie A match on 55 minutes after a goalless first 45 minutes before Caicedo added a second goal twelve minutes later to wrap up the win for his team. Lucas Leiva played for 71 minutes before he was subbed off for fellow midfielder DaniloCataldi. The recent resurgence of Lazio will be tested in their next league game, a Rome Derby slated for Friday night. For Lucas Leiva, the Brazilian international has played 16 times for Lazio this season.
