Gerrard Believes High Wages Cause Lack Of Dedication

Steven Gerrard reckons that because of the high amount of bucks that the soccer players get at a young age in club football nowadays, they don’t remain that hungry to make appearances for their country. They just focus on playing for their respective clubs.

Gerrard’s national side England has suffered early exit from another one of the FIFA Competitions i.e. the FIFA World Cup 2014.

In one of his interviews recently, the midfielder talked about the factors which are having adverse affect on the condition of the Three Lions national team. When he was asked if money is one such factor, he said, “Yes, it is to some extent. Those players who play the game only to get famous and to earn cash, it can surely distract them.”

“You must be associated with the game for the right reasons. If you have the right attitude, you would work your backsides off to become as good a player as anyone. Money shouldn’t be the only reason for you to be there playing the game.”

Gerrard has a bit of a tough time personally of late. He had come very close to be a Premier League Champion for the first time in his career, but, Manchester City left his team Liverpool behind at the last moment and now in the World Cup, England got knocked out from the group round.

Gerrard is the skipper of both the Reds and the Three Lions squad and he would surely have been hurt by all this.
When asked how difficult these last four-five weeks have been for him, the midfielder said, “I would say it’s the hardest period that I have ever gone through in my career. The wounds of not being able to win the league were still there and then, this World Cup thing. It’s been terrible.”
