Leiva Rejects Suggestions About Moving

Liverpool’s Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva has rejected suggestions that he is about to leave the club at the end of the season. After the final match of the season against Newcastle United, Lucas tweeted a message that appeared to be a farewell. He thanked the fans for a remarkable seven seasons at the club. Lucas has not been a first-team regular this campaign. This has resulted in him losing his spot in the Brazilian national team. Lucas will not be travelling with the Brazil squad for the World Cup 2014.

Despite this, he looks set to continue his stay at Merseyside. Liverpool will be returning to Champions League season. Lucas is one of the few experienced players in the squad to have seen first-hand what it feels like to be at Anfield on a European night. Still only 27 years old, Lucas still a long time left in football. However, it was told that he would be ready to try out a new adventure in Italy or Spain. There have also been rumours linking him with a return to Brazilian football.
Lucas will face more competition next season at Liverpool as the club have indicated that they will be looking to strengthen in the summer. Adam Lallana has been a transfer target for Liverpool in the last few weeks. The Southampton midfielder will cost the club around £25 million. An official offer has already been placed.

“Yesterday I finished my 7th season with Liverpool. I want to thank the ones who supported me all this years. #thankyou #goodbye,” read the message from the midfielder after the 2-1 win over Newcastle. However, he quickly clarified the situation by saying that the tweet was only for the season. “The goodbye that I said it is about the season that finished nothing else,” said Lucas.
