LUCAS LEIVA: MAJOR CLUB HONOURS REVEALED

Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva has played for just three clubs throughout his lengthy professional football career including present team Lazio in the Italian Serie A. Apart from the Italian capital club, Lucas Leiva has also played for Gremio in his native Brazil and Premier League giants Liverpool.

Lucas Leiva came through the youth system at Brazilian club Gremio before he made his debut for the senior team in 2005. He was a major part of the Gremio team that recorded success in the following year. Lucas Leiva and Gremio won the Rio Grande de Sul state championship also known as Campeonato Gaucho. The club also finished third in the Campeonato BrasilieroSerie A and Lucas Leiva was rewarded with the best player award (Bola de ouro from Placar Magazine) at the end of the season. He became the youngest player to win the award previously won by iconic Brazilian football players like Zico, Romario, Robinho, Falcao, Kaka and many more.

Brazilian international Lucas was linked with a lot of clubs in 2006 but he didn’t leave Gremio until 2007. Inter Milan and several clubs in the Spain had shown interest in him. In the end, the player signed for Liverpool in May 2007 for a fee of £6m. At Liverpool, he won the 2011/12 League Cup under club legend Kenny Dalglish.

For a period of six seasons between 2010 and 2016, Lucas led the Premier League in tackles per game for five of those six seasons. The midfielder has the most tackles in Premier League football and also has the most appearances in the competition amongst the Brazilian players.

Lucas ended his ten-year stay at Liverpool in the summer of 2017 to move to Lazio in the Italian league for £5m. He has been at Lazio till date. The Brazilian player has won theCoppa Italia title (2018/19 campaign) during his timeat Lazio in addition to the 2017 and 2019 Italian Super Cup titles.
